A man appears in the mirror.... The Paris World Fair, 1900. Klimt and Midi, his loyal friend and companion, have travelled from Vienna on the occasion of the award of the gold medal for his work “Philosophy“. During the course of the evening, Klimt once again meets the man in the mirror, who is introduced to him as the secretary from the embassy. In Klimt’s honour, a film produced by Georges Méliès is shown, which portrays a fictitious encounter between Klimt and a world-famous dancer. Klimt is fascinated by the film and its female lead, the dancer’s double. Later that evening, the secretary accompanies Klimt to the house of the duke Octave Wolff Helenia, where the dancer also lives. Klimt is confused. Is he confronted with the real dancer or her double? When the two become lovers, the dancer asks Klimt to paint her portrait. Klimt arranges for Midi to return to Vienna on her own. He stays in Paris with the dancer. After a few exhilarating days, the dancer’s mood changes, it is becoming more and more disheartening. She leaves Paris without saying good-bye and Klimt returns to Vienna...... |
